Debbie was born in Boulder, Colorado. She attended the University of Colorado as an undergraduate and attended law school at the University of Denver. She became a trial lawyer in 2001.
Debbie began her law career working for Trine & Metcalf, P.C., a small law firm in Boulder, Colorado. For seven years Debbie was fortunate enough to work closely with and learn from Bill Trine, a nationally renowned attorney. During this time, Debbie worked on a variety of personal injury and medical negligence cases.
In 2008, Debbie opened her own practice in Boulder, Colorado where she represented individuals in personal injury and medical negligence cases. In 2012, Debbie partnered with her brother, John Taussig and she is now a partner in the law firm, Taussig, Taussig & Smith, P.C. Debbie continues to represent and obtain justice for individuals in personal injury lawsuits.
Debbie is an officer and board member of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA). In 2009, she received the CTLA New Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. In 2012, Debbie was selected to serve on the board of governors for the American Association of Justice. Debbie is a 2003 graduate of Trial Lawyers College. This is a three-week college founded by Gerry Spence. The Trial Lawyers College works with trial lawyers who are committed to the jury system and who seek to represent and obtain justice for individuals, as well as protect individual rights from corporate and government oppression. Debbie currently teaches at the Trial Lawyers College. In 2017, Debbie was selected to the Colorado Super Lawyers List, an honor reserved for those lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice.
Debbie is a member of the Colorado Bar Association and the Boulder Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in the Colorado Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the State of Colorado, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
