John or “JT” is a Colorado native who was born and raised in Boulder. Colorado. The son of the late Boulder trial lawyer John “Jack” Taussig, Jr., John’s path to the law was anything but straight. An avid guitar player since the age of 8, John followed his heart and decided to pursue a musical career even before he completed high school. After learning how tough the music business is for an accomplished guitarist (and learning he wasn’t an accomplished guitarist) John returned to Colorado, earned his G.E.D., B.A. and law degree from the University of Colorado in 1983. For the next 21, years, John was fortunate to practice alongside his father as Taussig & Taussig, P.C. Despite his passion for music, it was inevitable that he would become a trial lawyer and continue the family legacy. Johns father and stepfather were both presidents of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, and his father-in-law was a famous prosecutor on the West Slope.
John is responsible for 4 of the 7 largest verdicts in Boulder County.
John has dedicated his life and law practice to representing real people. In 2007 John obtained the largest verdict in a motor vehicle crash case in Boulder County history.
John attended and graduated the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer’s College and is a frequent lecturer on issues related to representing injured people and insurance law.
As a partner with Taussig, Taussig & Smith P.C., John practices in the areas of worker’s compensation, personal injury, and insurance bad faith in both federal and state courts throughout Colorado. In addition, John continues to litigate cases nationally and serves as local counsel for out-of-state attorneys.
John is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, Boulder County Bar Association, Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA), American Trial Lawyers Association (ATLA) and American Association of Justice (AAJ).1-le is admitted to practice in all state and federal Courts in Colorado and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
